June 18th - Choose to Bloom

Sunday, June 18, 2017

"And the day came when the risk [it took] to remain tight in the bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

Start Quote
How much time, creative energy, and emotion
do we expend resisting change
because we assume growth must always be painful?

...
"Garden-making is creative work,
just as much as painting or writing a poem,"
the Victorian writer Hanna Rion tells us.

"It is a personal expression of self,
an individual conception of beauty."

Gardening is also a wonderful way
to gently explore some of the personal growth issues
raised by authenticity.

Mother Nature is a patient mentor.
End Quote

Bloom where you're planted.
You can't blame your surroundings for you not blooming.

If a dandelion can pop out of a sidewalk,
I think you can bloom where you are.

If you're a daffodil, you can't expect to bloom as a tulip.

"Don’t be complacent as a noxious weed or poison oak
—and don’t be discontent because you’re not
the biggest rose in the valley.
Bloom! Be pretty!"

Don't worry about everyone or anyone else.

Did you know that there is a flower called a corpse flower
that takes 7-10 years of growth before it finally blooms?

It doesn't matter how long it takes,
or where you're planted,
or what you are...

just choose to bloom.

Gratitude Journal

1) Hard Sundays. I'm grateful for these days because it reminds me how hard it is to be a parent. Teaching kids how to be reverent, to love and respect God, and listen and sing and learn about Jesus etc etc...it's really hard. We had to leave after Sacrament. We just put them in their rooms and let them play for an hour. Before third hour I asked them if they wanted to keep playing in their rooms or go back to church, and of course they wanted to go back to church. I figure it's just got to keep getting better from here, right?

2) The lesson today was on the home, and Robbie and I really needed it today.

3) Sunsets.

4) It's hot. I love the heat. Yeah, with it being over 100 degrees it's a little too hot, but I still love it. I was driving all by myself, so I just rolled the windows down instead of turning on the ac. It took me back to my little kia spectra...no ac, stick shift, no power anything so you had to actually roll the windows down...I loved that little car.

5) Generous people and making new friends. We just got a whole bunch of clothes handed down to us today, enough to set us up for the boys for at least another year, if not two or three. Do you have any idea how much money that just saved us? I do. I am very grateful, and glad I can pass them on once we're done with them.
